Schar Sch'nacks

Posted on February 29, 2016 at 10:00am 0 Comments

We like many of the Schar products and buy many of them on a regular basis. So, when we saw one we hadn’t noticed before in our HyVee, gluten-free of course, we decided to try it. It was their Sch’nacks– the…

Almost Caramels

Almost Caramels

We decided we wanted to make our favorite Caramels last night. Everything was going fine. I had toasted the pecans and buttered the pot and pan. I was at the point of just waiting for it to get to the right temperature of 242* - it was about 225 or so - when the candy thermometer fell into the pot. Well, if you know ANYTHING about making caramel, you know you…

Favorite Gluten-Free Pancakes

We have made these so many times that I am afraid we will turn into pancakes. We love them. I first started making them when we found Krusteaz Gluten-Free All Purpose (GF AP) Flour at Sam’s (they no longer carry it). We have made them so many times that we have a system for who does what in the process. He melts the butter and loads the pan to toast the pecans. I make the batter and he cooks the pancakes (we use a griddle/waffle maker that I…

Leftover Turkey Blues

Do you have the 'leftover turkey blues'?

Well, we never consider leftover turkey something to be blue about. We love leftover turkey. In fact, we intentionally buy more turkey than we can eat for Thanksgiving.  If I make a mistake and don’t buy a big enough turkey, I buy another one after Thanksgiving for all the great dishes I can make with leftover turkey.

After Thanksgiving, I put the remainder of the turkey that is still attached to the bones in a large pot and cook…

What Would You Do

What Would You Do?

Someone asked what to do if your child’s teacher has informed you that your six-year-old child’s class will be making gingerbread houses for a class project and asks that you bring gluten-free options for your child to participate. There is a 504 plan in place and it states no gluten in crafts. The school also has a no food for celebrations policy. You tell the teacher that the best way to include him would be to pick an activity that is safe for everyone.  She…

Thank you :)  the woman i'm working for is currently very, very successful at this food delivery venture & her catering & the market here for gluten free (savory food) is nill & much in desire, i really think if i can get it off the ground it will be a success.

Hi, so my basic concept is exactly what this woman is doing: - i'm actually working for her right now, but she's not doing gluten free, so mine will strictly be gf & also some paleo concepts/cooking items as well.  so for busy families who have gluten intolerance (like me), or celiac - i would love to deliver once a week home cooked, from scratch meals, local & organic ingredients (when possible).  i live in the s.shore of massachusetts, in a town called Plymouth.

Joyce I would love to have an actual sandwich with sliced bread. Is there any such thing without having to make and bake your own. I tried Bob's Mill bread mix and wasn't impressed. I have tried a few prepackaged breads but they were so dense and nasty I would rather do without(lol). Someone suggested Udi's has a good white bread, but I am hesitant. I have spent money on breads just to eat one slice and throw the rest away it has been so bad. I haven't had a slice of bread to actually taste good since Janurary. Thank u so much!

Thanks so much for the encouragement Joyce.I am not really computer literate when it comes to a web page so I will have too have some help from family(lol).I look forward to visiting the web pages of other gluten intolerant/celiac individuals. The only cooking I am doing now is prepackaged gluten free for the time being so all the recipes I can actually use will be helpful.

Thank you.  Being retired, I now have time to experiment with this new food lifestyle.  It should be an interesting ride, as gluten free is a totally new road for me to travel.  Having worked previously invarious types of establishments requiring F&B background, I most definitely now must think outside the box! That's a good thing!

Thank you for the welcome. I will read the discussions and comment if I can. I thought I did write up a little blogpost but I can't seem to locate it even though I read that I was "featured." What does that mean? Thanks, Lee
