Gluten-Free Does Not Mean Flavor Free
We like many of the Schar products and buy many of them on a regular basis. So, when we saw one we hadn’t noticed before in our HyVee, gluten-free of course, we decided to try it. It was their Sch’nacks– the…Continue

We decided we wanted to make our favorite Caramels last night. Everything was going fine. I had toasted the pecans and buttered the pot and pan. I was at the point of just waiting for it to get to the right temperature of 242* - it was about 225 or so - when the candy thermometer fell into the pot. Well, if you know ANYTHING about making caramel, you know you…Continue

Favorite Gluten-Free Pancakes
We have made these so many times that I am afraid we will turn into pancakes. We love them. I first started making them when we found Krusteaz Gluten-Free All Purpose (GF AP) Flour at Sam’s (they no longer carry it). We have made them so many times that we have a system for who does what in the process. He melts the butter and loads the pan to toast the pecans. I make the batter and he cooks the pancakes (we use a griddle/waffle maker that I…Continue

Do you have the 'leftover turkey blues'?
Well, we never consider leftover turkey something to be blue about. We love leftover turkey. In fact, we intentionally buy more turkey than we can eat for Thanksgiving. If I make a mistake and don’t buy a big enough turkey, I buy another one after Thanksgiving for all the great dishes I can make with leftover turkey.
After Thanksgiving, I put the remainder of the turkey that is still attached to the bones in a large pot and cook…Continue

What Would You Do?
Someone asked what to do if your child’s teacher has informed you that your six-year-old child’s class will be making gingerbread houses for a class project and asks that you bring gluten-free options for your child to participate. There is a 504 plan in place and it states no gluten in crafts. The school also has a no food for celebrations policy. You tell the teacher that the best way to include him would be to pick an activity that is safe for everyone. She…Continue

We went to Costco the other day because we heard they had gluten-free pizza. We checked and the only kind we found was Sabatasso's Four Cheese Gluten-Free Pizzas. The package has 2 pizzas (17.5 ounces each) in it for $11.89. They are a pretty good size (largest gluten-free…Continue
We found these cookies the other day and I've been baking a couple at a time. There are only two of us living here and this keeps us from devouring all of them in one day. There are 12 "jumbo" cookies in the package. Well, I don't know about you, but I don't need to supersize…Continue

Well, when I originally wrote the blog questioning whether or not the Cheerios were gluten-free I didn't know how right I was in questioning it. At first, I thought they were OK, then I had a reaction but I wasn't sure what from because we had tried several new things that day. The reaction was…Continue

I have been hearing about Cheerios going gluten-free for some time but every time I look at our local stores, they are not there. Yesterday, FINALLY, we found the gluten-free Honey Nut Cheerios (the original was still not the one…Continue

Well, yesterday we found out that our house will have to be replumbed. They were "nice" enough to turn off the water in the kitchen and will not be back until Monday to work on it. We don't know if they will finish it on Monday or not. I bought a HUGE turkey because I had hoped to make lots of turkey dishes with the leftovers. Think: turkey sandwiches, turkey salad, turkey soup - think about Forrest Gump and his friend Bubba and all the ways to make shrimp. That should give you some idea…Continue

Gluten-Free Flour Tortillas
Let me start by saying we have tried many brands of gluten-free "flour" tortillas and have not liked any of them. Some were sent to us free to review, however, if we do not like something that was given to us, we don't review it. If we don't like…Continue
