Grandma's Gluten-Free Baking N Cooking

Gluten-Free Does Not Mean Flavor Free

We like many of the Schar products and buy many of them on a regular basis. So, when we saw one we hadn’t noticed before in our HyVee, gluten-free of course, we decided to try it. It was their Sch’nacks– the appearance reminded me of the Little Debbie Devil Squares with its chocolate exterior, cream filling and vanilla cake.

We got home and decided to try them out. We were really looking forward to them. Each cake is individually wrapped. I was thinking they would be great for school lunches if they taste good.

The German chocolate coating was fine, the filling was tasty, but the cake part had a very dry sawdust texture to it. We tried dunking them in milk and, although they weren’t dry anymore, they still had that off-putting sawdust-like texture to them. We won’t buy these again.
